The Damien Foundation in Burundi
 |
Two very different situations
Although leprosy is no longer a major public health problem in Burundi, the situation is quite different concerning tuberculosis. Here we have a major issue made still worse by the HIV/AIDS epidemic which has hit the population like a hammer. Also, the insecure situation which the country has experienced does not make our combat against this endemic disease any easier.
Our action
The Damien Foundation's technical consultant acts on a central level. He supports all the activities of the National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Program, which involves managing patients for detection and treatment, and health centre personnel for monitoring, training and supervising. The Foundation also provides the PNLT with logistical backup.
