The Damien Foundation in Nicaragua
 |
Tuberculosis
Quite recently, the Foundation started supporting the National Tuberculosis Control Programme in 10 of the country's 17 health regions. It supports supervision and training designed to maintain and improve still further the detection and cure of tuberculosis patients in these 10 regions in the Western part of the country.
Leishmaniasis also
However, Nicaragua is, more than anything else, the only country where the Foundation is fighting leishmaniasis. Support has been given without interruption for nearly ten years, so we have been able to organise a genuine programme incorporated into primary health care. Among other things, the programme supports training of community health workers in heavily affected areas and mobile teams.
