Funding sources
Each year, the Damien Foundation receives important funds and incurs expenses. Most of the Damien Foundation’s income is financed by funds collected from the Belgian population. This usually occurs during the January campaign. The Damien Foundation supports the Association for Ethics in Fundraising. We also adhere to the respect for privacy clause. Our files are managed in-house and we respect our obligations in accordance with the principles set out above. We refuse to exchange or sell information about our donors.
Considering the importance of our funds and expenses, it goes without saying that our financial management must be rigorous and transparent. At our head office in Brussels as well as in projects supported by the Damien Foundation, we apply a rigorous system to audit and follow up on accounts, in accordance with general accounting policies. Auditing is done at different levels, internal and external. In most countries our accounts are submitted for audit by the government, as per the local legislation. We also submit our accounts to certified company auditors in Belgium and in most of our projects. Other auditing is carried out by different sponsors such as the Belgian government, the EU, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and others.
